Redleaf Beach Sydney sits in Double Bay, on the harbourside stretch between the city and Darling Point.

Most visitors arrive from the street above, towel under one arm, hunting for space on a busy lawn.

Arriving by water is a different day altogether.

So here is what the location feels like from a deck, and what there is to decide before you go.

Redleaf beach Sydney: why arriving by water is different

The swimming area is a netted tidal enclosure, known officially as Murray Rose Pool, with a timber boardwalk curving along the shore and a pontoon to swim out to.

The netting provides the boundary, which makes for a calmer, safer-feeling swim than open water.

From the sand, the good spots go early on a warm weekend.

From the water, you keep your own shade, your own seating and your own view. The beach becomes the scene rather than the queue.

Because the bay is sheltered, the water close in usually sits flat, while the skyline and the bridge stand off to the west.

Moments worth staying for

The first swim. Anchor off the enclosure and the ladder on the swim platform is a few steps from your seat. Guests go in straight from the platform, then drift toward the pontoon or stay in the deeper, cooler water near the hull.

The middle of the afternoon. Paddleboards go over the side and the aqua lily pad follows, so the group splits naturally between water and deck. On Enigma, the floating pool becomes the spot nobody leaves.

Lunch in the shade. On Felix, the electric awning rolls out over the cockpit and the sun stops being a factor. Plates on the table, music low through the multi-zoned sound system, the boardwalk filling and emptying in front of you.

Golden hour. The outdoor shower rinses off the salt, the sun bed on Enigma’s bow collects whoever wants the last of the light, and the sandstone above the beach turns amber.

Then the slow run home, heading west past the moored yachts of the Double Bay precinct.

Redleaf beach Sydney by boat: what to decide

How long you stay. Redleaf can hold a whole afternoon, or sit as one stop among several. Groups after a longer run often pair it with other harbour beaches best reached by private boat.

Which vessel. Enigma and Felix are our own, and a wider set of partner vessels is bookable through Lifestyle Charters, so private boat hire in Sydney starts with the size and shape of your group rather than the boat.

When to swim. The enclosure is public and tidal, so conditions change with the tide, the wind and the weather. Your local captain may point you to another bay if the water is not doing what it should.

Frequently asked questions about the swimming enclosure

Can you swim at Redleaf Beach Sydney?

Generally, yes. The netted tidal enclosure is open to the public, though water quality depends on the tide and recent rain, so check conditions before you plan a visit around a swim.

Is Redleaf Beach Sydney the same as Murray Rose Pool?

Yes. Murray Rose Pool is the official name of the enclosure at Redleaf Beach in Double Bay, and many locals still use the older name.

The eastern bays reward anyone who arrives slowly and stays a while.

A private charter gives you the part most visitors miss: the same beach approached from the water, a deck to come back to, and nobody’s timetable but your own.

Lifestyle Charters is family-owned and operated by Sam and Dave, lifelong Sydney locals who run private luxury charters on the harbour.
