There is a gentle shift the moment you step off the wharf and onto the deck. The city stays in view, yet it already feels further away. With boat hire sydney guests choose for a birthday or an engagement, the day is not an itinerary so much as a slow unfolding: first drinks poured, the skyline turning, the water carrying everything along.
Why boat hire in Sydney feels different

Sydney Harbour is not something you look at from a boat. You move through it.
From the water, the light changes minute by minute across the sails of the Opera House and the sandstone of the foreshore. Wake settles behind you. The noise of the city thins to gulls and engine hum.
For a celebration, that matters more than any venue floor plan. Nobody needs a seating chart. Guests drift between the deck and the cabin, glasses in hand, and conversation moves with them.
Our founders, Sam and Dave, grew up on these waters, racing and sailing here long before they hosted here. So a charter feels less like a booking and more like locals showing you around a place they love.
What to know before you plan
Choosing your vessel. Enigma and Felix are our own boats, and guests can also book partner vessels through us. Explore the fleet to see which option suits your party.
Guest numbers. Felix carries up to 25 guests in closed waters; Enigma up to 41.
Timing. Minimum bookings run three to four hours depending on the vessel.
Wharves. We confirm your pick-up point with you before the day, so check it with us when you enquire.
The moments that make the day

Boarding, and the first toast
Guests arrive to a warm welcome and step aboard without queuing or fuss. Someone pours the champagne on the aft deck, the crew slip the lines, and the first toast lands while the wharf is still in sight.
Then the engines settle into a low note, and the harbour opens.
Cruising past the icons
The vessel tracks past Sydney’s most recognisable landmarks, and the perspective changes everything. You pass beneath the Harbour Bridge rather than beside it. The Opera House arrives close enough that guests stop mid-sentence to look up.
Cameras come out here. So do the photos people keep.
Anchoring in a quiet bay
Away from the busy waterways, the captain drops anchor somewhere sheltered and the day changes gear. On Enigma, the swim platform opens onto a ladder, an aqua lily pad, two stand up paddleboards and a floating pool. Felix carries its own lily pad and paddleboards.
Someone always goes in first. The rest follow. There is an outdoor shower on both boats for afterwards, and air conditioning inside for anyone who has had enough sun.
Afternoon on the flybridge
As the light warms, the flybridge becomes the best seat aboard. There is a sun bed up there and extra seating, and the sound system runs through multiple zones, so the music on the bow need not match the music below.
Enigma has a second sun bed on the bow. On Felix, an electric retractable awning slides out over the cockpit when the sun gets insistent, and the rear lounge converts to a daybed on request.
Sunset and the way home
The return keeps its unhurried pace. The skyline reappears in silhouette, then in lights, and the water flattens as the wind drops.
Both vessels carry a central galley and bar with two fridges and two freezers, so the last round is as cold as the first. Guests linger on deck. Nobody is looking for their coat yet.
Planning details we handle for you
We help you match the vessel to your group and shape the timing around the moments you care about most.
A sample flow for a four-hour celebration
Hour one. Boarding, champagne, and a slow cruise out past the Bridge and the Opera House.
Hour two. Anchor in a sheltered bay. Paddleboards out, floating pool in, swimmers in the water.
Hour three. Back aboard, outdoor shower, music up. Guests spread between the flybridge sun bed and the shaded cockpit.
Hour four. A last cruise as the light softens, then a gentle return to the wharf.
Frequently asked questions
Felix is $850 to $950 per hour with a four-hour minimum, and Enigma is $990 to $1,300 per hour with a three to four hour minimum. Partner vessels sit across a wider range, so we quote once we know your group size and date.
The hourly rate covers the vessel, the crew and the harbour itself. Talk to us about anything else you want on board, because every celebration is put together differently.
Enigma and Felix each have a well stocked bar, and Enigma also offers full BYO charters. Among partner vessels the bar model varies, so we confirm the arrangement for your chosen boat.
Yes. Vivid Sydney runs annually over roughly 23 nights from late May, with installations lit from 6pm to 11pm. From the water you see the Lighting of the Sails on the Opera House and the illuminated Harbour Bridge, though the inland laneway installations need a walk ashore.
Monday to Thursday nights are quieter than the weekends. In 2026 the Harbour Cruise Fireworks fell on Thursdays and Fridays at about 8pm over the open harbour, which made those the standout nights on the water.
Your celebration on the harbour
A day on Sydney Harbour gives you something a room cannot: space, light, and a view that keeps changing while your guests do nothing but enjoy it. Whether you are planning a milestone, a proposal, a wedding or a corporate event, we would love to help you shape it.
